Building Business Pathways in the Omaha Nation: April 26 Community Conversation to Foster Native Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development

We invite you to participate in a community discussion on April 26 to create a pathway for Entrepreneurship/ Cooperative Development in Omaha Nation.  

This discussion is a first step to inspire our community to work together in creating a pathway for people in Omaha Nation to succeed in their business endeavors. On April 26th, we will focus on creating the mindset for an entrepreneurial path that honors our native traditions. The Nebraska Indian Community College, the Center for Rural Affairs, members of the Omaha Nation governmental offices, and the Nebraska Cooperative Development Center have been working together to plan this event.

Who is Invited: All who are passionate about working together to create more business opportunities in the Omaha Nation.

What to Expect:  Native music will welcome you to inspire our creativity. Two distinguished presenters will share their insights on economic development in Indian Country. 

  • Robert Miller, a prominent Professor & business consultant for native communities, will share nine crucial factors that need to be in place for successful tribal businesses.  He is an enrolled member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe and Professor of Law at Arizona State University. Following his presentation, those present will explore what is already in place in Omaha Nation. Robert Miller bio.
  • Lance Morgan, a renown corporate business leader in Indian country, will share his insights on steps that are needed for successful business pathways. He is an enrolled member of the Winnebago Tribe and President & Chief Executive Office of Ho-Chunk, Inc., will share his insights on steps that are needed for success. Following his presentation, we will begin to talk about what we can do in Omaha Nation. Lance Morgan bio.
  • Conversations amongst Each Other – learn about current opportunities and share hopes for the future.
  • Sam Ackerman will create a graphic illustration of the conversations to help create a vision for the roadmap. Sam Ackerman bio.
